To provide the highest quality and most effective Elderberry Syrup to our customers, our elderberry syrup is made using a slow, low heat process that takes several days. High temperature can destroy the medicinal value of herbs and berries. This is not a process that you can rush by boiling without reducing the quality of the final product. Unlike most other syrups on the market, our elderberry syrup is never boiled.
There are 4 popular liquids that can be used to extract the medicinal properties from herbs. From weakest to strongest, they are Water, Vinegar, Glycerin and Alcohol. Water, being the weakest, is the equivalent of “tea”, while alcohol has the ability to pull the most medicinal properties, making a tincture.
Instead of boiling elderberries in water and starting with a weak “tea” for our syrup, we start with organic elderberries and extract them into vegetable glycerin to make a glycerite. Glycerite extracts are not only more potent, but also naturally preserving which makes them shelf stable. This is very important from a food safety standpoint. Any product that is water based must either be preserved or refrigerated to reduce the risk of microbial growth.
To the glycerite we add raw organic apple cider vinegar, raw honey and fruit juices to make a delicious syrup that packs over 500 mg of elderberry in each spoonful.
